AMO appoints global regulatory affairs leader

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) has announced the appointment of Richard J DeRisio as vice-president of global regulatory affairs at the firm.

In this role, Mr DeRisio will oversee the development and implementation of worldwide strategies for existing and new products at the company which are currently sold in over 70 countries worldwide.

Prior to this appointment, Mr DeRisio has served in the same role at medical technology company Kinetic Concepts, while also holding similar jobs at a range of firms including Steris, Computer Motion, Biosense Webster, Sorin Biomedical and Ventritex.

Leonard Borrmann, executive vice-president of research and development at the company, said: “We are pleased to welcome aboard Richard, as he brings to AMO more than 25 years of regulatory and professional management experience in the medical device industry.”

He added that his ability and skills will enhance the global research and development team at the firm, while also boosting growth across its three business segments.

In July 2007, AMO issued a response sent to the firm by the board of directors of Bausch & Lomb relating to a merger offer for the company.

AMO reiterated its belief that its offer to Bausch & Lomb shareholders of $75 (37.40 pound) per share is superior to that tendered by Warburg Pincus.
