An estimated 12 referrals will be sent to community pharmacies from the Discharge Medicines Service per year

An estimated 12 referrals will be sent to community pharmacies from the Discharge Medicines Service per year, according to the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee. If all three parts of the DMS are provided for each referral, pharmacies will receive up to four-hundred and twenty pounds per year from the service.

Thirty-five pounds will be paid to contractors per referral, for providing the complete DMS service, or up to twelve pounds for delivering one-third of the service.

Furthermore, pharmacies are given twelve pounds to check the referral and link the medicines the patient has been released with to those used before admission, once the referral is received.

A further payment of twelve pounds will be made once the pharmacy technician or pharmacist has checked that the patient understands their new medicines regimen during a consultation.
