Applied Biosystems analyser ‘essential’
A genetic analyser supplied by Applied Biosystems is essential to the running of a Vermont laboratory, it has been claimed.
Northfield-based Microcheck has installed a power protection system to ensure the consistent running of its Applied Biosystems Prism 3130xl analyser.
Laboratory director Dr Mike Sinclair explains that the power protection is required as the site’s adverse weather conditions frequently prove problematic.
"I sleep better at night knowing that our Applied Biosystems genetic analyser will run 24/7 regardless of what’s going on weather-wise outside our laboratory," he states.
Dr Sinclair adds that it would be "irresponsible" not to protect the unit, which is considered essential to meeting the demands of clients.
Applied Biosystems advises that its SNaPshot matrix standard set DS-02 should be used to create a sample for reference when using the Prism 3130xl.
The firm suggests that subsequent analyses which are run under similar conditions may use this standard to correct for the spectral overlap associated with samples labelled with DS-02 dye.
