Applied Biosystems announces food safety partnership

Applied Biosystems, which is part of Life Technologies, is helping to reinforce food safety standards in China.

The government is utilising 40 AB SCIEX mass spectrometers so they can analyse a wide range of foods more accurately.

Rice, corn, wheat, soybeans, fruits, vegetables and livestock will be examined by the highly sensitive detectors to identify any signs of contamination.

Because the devices can expose the smallest sign of bacteria or other factors that may ruin produce, the government is able to act more quickly to stop it from spreading.

Laura Lauman, president of Life Technologies’ mass spectrometry systems division, said the company is committed to helping China improve food safety.

"This effort is a critical step in ensuring the safety of China’s food products by enabling the accurate identification of harmful chemicals in order to prevent contamination from entering the food supply," she stated.

Earlier this week, Applied Biosystems announced its TagMan Salmonella enterica Detection Kit had been certified.
