Applied Biosystems boosts TaqMan Assay system

Applied Biosystems has announced the launch of new genotyping technology aimed at making the study of DNA easier.

The company’s latest TaqMan Copy Number Assays system could allow further research into the role of genetics in the development of human disease by helping to detect and quantify structural variants.

Dr Charles Lee, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, said the system could provide the industry with more accurate dataset results.

"Patterns of specific copy number variants have already been associated with increased susceptibility to several human diseases and traits," he added.

The TaqMan Copy Number Assay solution is made up of over 1.6 million pre-designed assays allowing faster detection of genetic variants.

Applied Biosystems recently announced it would form an alliance with TGen in using its Solid 3 System to research a number of diseases and conditions through genomic analysis and genetic variation.
