Applied Biosystems has supplied a DNA sequencer to German firm GATC, it has emerged.

The new system is GATC’s third next-generation purchase and is to almost double the capacity of its installation at Constance, the company states.

Following the activation of the new unit, the sequencing potential of GATC is expected to rise from 130 gigabases to 250 gigabases each year.

Thomas Pohl, chief technical officer, expressed his anticipation at future collaboration with Applied Biosystems.

"We are proud to join Applied Biosystems’ early access programme as we are able to elaborate the best strategy for each distinct sequencing project in a very early stage," he said.

"Moreover, our customers will have access to the latest technology of Applied Biosystems in a very early stage," he added.
