Applied Biosystems to launch new contaminant detection programme

9th July 2010

Applied Biosystems is to launch a new programme which is designed to make it easier to detect common contaminants in pharmaceutical production.

The brand’s parent company Life Technologies is to introduce the Applied Biosystems Cell Culture Rapid Methods Program, which provides detection for Mycoplasma, Vesivirus 2117 and Mouse Minute Virus using a single sample preparation step and instrument platform.

Life Technologies states that the biologic kits used in this programme are highly sensitive and accurate, allowing these contaminants to be easily isolated in cell culture samples.

It also functions quickly, allowing sample preparation and detection of all three contaminants to be performed in less than seven hours.

Chris Linthwaite, head of bioproduction at Life Technologies, said: “The expansion of our detection kits and development of the Rapid Methods Program demonstrates our leadership in sample preparation and real-time PCR.”

Last month, Life Technologies attended the International Society for Stem Cell Research, where it showcased new Applied Biosystems technology such as TaqMan Protein Assays.
