Ark Therapeutics schedules UK launch of Kerraped

Ark Therapeutics has announced the expansion of its wound care product portfolio with the addition of a third product, Kerraped, to its range.

The device is due to be launched in the UK in the third quarter of the year, while the firm has announced an agreed pricing structure with the NHS Business Services Authority.

Kerraped is a treatment for patients with foot ulcers and is used to reduce the pressure of the body on vulnerable parts of the sole. The product can be integrated with the company’s existing Kerraboot offering to further protect wounds and increase patient mobility.

Nigel Parker, chief executive officer of Ark Therapeutics, said: “‘Such specialist footwear has historically only been available in hospitals where its biomechanical characteristics have been well recognised by specialists as providing benefits to healing ulcers and preventing recurrence.”

He added that in a climate of increasing incidence of diabetes, the NHS has received calls to make this treatment available away from a hospital setting, with the launch of Kerraped widening access to mechanical offloading in patients at a cost-effective price.

In January 2007, Ark Therapeutics announced that it had been recognised with the Frost & Sullivan’s 2006 award for product innovation for its Kerraboot wound-healing accelerant.
