Ark Therapeutics wins UK rights for wound care gel
Ark Therapeutics, the British-Finnish medical technology company, has announced it has signed an agreement that gives it the right to sell Flaminal anti-microbial wound care gel, licensed by Flen Pharma, a Belgian company.
Flaminal will be released in two formulations. Flaminal will be used for wet wounds, while Flaminal Hydro will be used in treating dry wounds. The gel uses an enzyme system that helps to heal wounds that are showing signs of delayed healing due to infection. Ark says Flaminal is particularly effective against Streptococcus pyogenes and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Paul Higham, Ark’s commercial director, remarked: “Flaminal presents us with a very exciting marketing opportunity and we expect the product to secure a significant market share.”
“The clinical data is impressive and we believe it offers considerable advantages over existing products,” he added.
Ark’s chief executive officer, Nigel Parker, concluded: “This deal demonstrates our continued commitment to building our wound care and devices division. We look forward to bringing Flaminal to market later this year.”
Ark Therapeutics currently markets one product, Kerraboot, but has a further three in late-stage clinical development. It has three research programmes, focusing on gene vector and expression technology, vascular biology and growth factor research, and a drug targeting platform product.
