Astellas and Pfizer’s Xtandi treatment granted further approval

Astellas and Pfizer’s Xtandi, for the treatment of non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, has been granted further approval, after a study abstract shows that it can help reduce a patients’ risk of death by twenty-seven per cent if paired with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Patients lived a median of just fifty-six point three months on ADT plus placebo, in comparison to sixty-seven months on Astellas and Pfizer’s drug.

General Manager and Global President, Pfizer’s oncology unit, Andy Schmeltz, outlined that the survival data “provides additional confidence for both oncologists and urologists in using Xtandi. We’re really excited because we’ve already seen such great uptake in this patient population.”
