AstraZeneca and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals labs up for facility of the year

3rd February 2006

AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield laboratory has been chosen as one of the five finalists in the international Facility of the Year Award competition along with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals’ centre in Dublin.

The awards, in their second year, also picked out Baxter BioPharma Solutions, Daiichi Asubio Pharma Janssen Pharmaceutica, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

The competition is run by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), Interphex and Pharmaceutical Processing magazine.

ISPE president Robert Best said: “Following the incredible success of last year’s inaugural Facility of the Year Award competition, this year’s 2006 submissions are proving to recognise and amplify the significance of this critical sector of the global pharmaceutical industry.”

Wyeth’s BioPharma Campus at Grange Castle, Dublin, focuses on small molecules, vaccines, and biotechnology and is exploring more than 60 new therapies for medical conditions such as diabetes, breast cancer and Alzheimer?s disease.

AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield Large Scale Laboratory (LSL), a venture with Alliance Partners, was also recognised.

The other contenders are Baxter BioPharma Solutions’ facility in Indiana, Daiichi Asubio Pharma’s site in Tokyo and Janssen Pharmaceutica’s Belgian laboratories in Geel.

The winner will be announced at the Interphex conference and exhibition in New York on March 22nd.
