AstraZeneca expands research collaborations with BioDuro

AstraZeneca has expanded its research collaboration with BioDuro to to help develop new therapeutics.

Both companies have been involved in discovery chemistry, Admet (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity) and DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics).

Now, the two pharmaceutical businesses will use their strengths to concentrate on developing new clinical compounds for respiratory and inflammation indications.

Chief executive officer and co-founder of BioDuro John Oyler commented: “This partnership demonstrates the strength of our innovation, quality and our fully integrated R&D service platform.”

Earlier this month, the Food and Drug Administration approved AstraZeneca’s drug Symbicort for the treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The twice-daily medication ? which is now approved for use in 91 countries – can be used for conditions including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Chief medical officer of the firm Dr Howard Hutchinson commented that the permitted drug would provide patients with an option that can deliver long-term lung function improvement and daily symptom control.
