AstraZeneca launches cholesterol awareness campaign
AstraZeneca is launching a new awareness campaign designed to improve understanding of cholesterol-related health issues among men.
The company is conducting the initiative in the week leading up to Father's Day, which has been designated as National Men's Health Week.
It wishes to draw attention to the link between high cholesterol intake and the risk of developing plaque in the arteries, which can lead to heart conditions such as atherosclerosis.
As such, the company is recommending that patients consult their physicians to gain insight into potential lifestyle changes that can be made, as well as receiving a professional insight into their overall cholesterol intake.
Dr Philip de Vane, executive director of clinical development at AstraZeneca, said: "Father's Day is a wonderful time to celebrate and honour Dad, but it can also be used as an important opportunity for fathers and their families to talk frankly about their health."
Last month, AstraZeneca announced a new alliance with Heptares Therapeutics focusing on research into G-protein coupled receptor-targeting drugs, which could hold potential cardiovascular health benefits.
