AstraZeneca says it looks forward to discussing Certriad

AstraZeneca has said it is looking forward to discussing a potential medicine with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The company, along with Abbott, has submitted a new drug application to the regulatory body for an investigational compound intended to treat mixed dyslipidemia.

It is a condition where two or more lipid abnormalities are combined, including high LDL cholesterol, high triglycerides and low HDL-cholesterol.

Data from a number of studies has been submitted with the file seeking permission for the compound, which contains Triliplix (fenofibric acid) and Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium).

Chief medical officer of AstraZeneca Howard Hutchinson noted it is an important stage in the development of the drug, which will be marketed as Certriad if approved.

“We look forward to continued discussions with the FDA about this potential new medicine,” he commented.

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca is due to co-promote Abbott’s Trilipix to treat a number of lipid disorders.

The medication is designed to be used either alone or alongside a statin.
