AstraZeneca states it is evaluating complete response letter

27th February 2009

AstraZeneca is evaluating a complete response letter it has received, the firm has stated.

The statement asks the healthcare company for additional information for the supplemental new drug application of Seroquel XR (quetiapine fumarate).

It is an extended release formulation based on its forerunner and has been proposed to be used for treating major depressive disorder and generalised anxiety disorder.

The firm announced earlier this week it had been advised by the Food and Drug Administration that the Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee had scheduled a meeting to discuss the safety and efficacy of the remedy.

In January 2009, the pharmaceutical company announced its full-year results for 2008.

The business had delivered a “robust performance in an increasingly challenging market”, it asserted.

AstraZeneca employs over 67,000 staff and is active in over 100 countries worldwide. Its corporate office is in London, with major R&D sites in Sweden.

The areas it concentrates its skills and resources on include cancer, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infection, neuroscience and respiratory.
