AstraZeneca to present economic data for Brilique

AstraZeneca will present new data demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of Brilique (ticagrelor) at next month's International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) meeting in Spain.

The pharmaceutical giant said health economics sub-studies from the Plato trial have shown that using Brilique plus aspirin for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) results in cost savings, as well as an improvement in quality-adjusted life years.

This is compared with treatments using both generic and branded clopidogrel plus aspirin.

Data from Canada, Germany, Greece, Holland, Mexico, Poland and Spain was examined to assess the cost-effectiveness of the treatment for ACS patients.

"It's critical that we deliver solutions that demonstrate how our medications improve quality of life and reduce mortality, as well as alleviate the cost burden on the global healthcare system," said Tony Zook, executive vice-president of AstraZeneca's global commercial organisation.

The 14th ISPOR European Congress is due to take place in Madrid from November 5th to 8th.
