AstraZeneca to present new diabetes data at ADA meeting

AstraZeneca is attending the annual scientific sessions of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) this week in order to share its latest diabetes research findings.

The company is presenting a total of 86 abstracts at the meeting in Boston, which runs from June 5th to 9th, with data to be shared on both investigational and established therapies.

Notable late-breaker abstracts include data from a phase III study comparing the efficacy and safety of Forxiga versus placebo as an add-on to saxagliptin and metformin in adults with type 2 diabetes, plus new data on Bydureon, Byetta and Onglyza.

New real-world data from a retrospective claims database study will also be presented, comparing the risk of hospitalisation for heart failure between DPP-4 inhibitors versus sulfonylureas, and comparing saxagliptin with sitagliptin.

Elisabeth Bjork, vice-president and head of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases for AstraZeneca's global medicines development business, said: "The extensive scientific data at ADA underscore our research goals to better understand the long-term effects of newer classes of medicines across different patient populations."

This comes after the firm attended the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology earlier this week, where it shared its latest immuno-oncology research findings.
