B Braun launches Askina Calgitrol Paste wound dressing
B Braun has announced the launch of Askina Calgitrol Paste, a new ionic silver-containing wound dressing that offers various clinical benefits.
The product releases ionic silver at bactericidal concentrations from an alginate matrix into the wound bed, offering efficacy against infections such as MRSA, P. aeruginosa and E. coli.
It provides intimate contact with the wound bed thanks to its amorphous substance characteristics, delivering benefits without an associated risk of over-delivery, skin discoloration and systemic toxicity.
The paste also offers a broad range of indications in the treatment of difficult-to-manage acute and chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers, venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and second-degree burns.
"Askina Calgitrol Paste can be considered an innovative and highly conformable wound dressing which provides an immediate and sustained release of ionic silver from the alginate matrix into the wound," said the manufacturer.
Earlier this month, the company enrolled the first patient for the landmark Basket-Small 2 clinical trial, which will evaluate the performance of the drug-eluting balloon SeQuent Please.
