B Braun Medical receives blood service contract

23rd May 2006

The National Blood Service has unveiled B Braun Medical as the company to supply hygiene products for the hands, designed to reduce the risk of infection.

The blood service put the Softalind Hand Sanitizer through what the Yorkshire Post describes as “an extensive tendering and trials process” in centres across Sheffield, Liverpool and Southampton. It is designed to clean hands before and after each donor, according to the paper, and will be present at each bedside. Hygiene is important to prevent the spread of bacteria and infectious diseases, especially when fluids such as blood are being transferred.

B Braun has a few products in its Softalind medical cleansing range, including a body gels and shower gels, bath oils and cleansing mousses, as well as the new hand sanitizer, which also provides the facility for uniform-clipped dispensers, according to the newspaper.

B Braun operates a purpose-built head office and distribution centre in Sheffield, which comprises both B Braun and Aesculap businesses. It says it employs 27,000 staff in 50 countries, across 140 subsidiaries. The company’s worldwide headquarters are based in Melsugen, Germany and it has a turnover of over 1.3 billion pounds.
