Bausch and Lomb introduces Crystalens HD

Bausch & Lomb has announced the European launch of its Crystalens HD intraocular lens.

It has introduced the product at the annual congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Berlin.

The lens received a CE mark approval last month and is the fourth generation of the company’s intraocular lens range.

It followed on from the Crystalens Five-O model which has already been implanted in over 100,000 patients.

The company said the new lens provides an enhanced depth of focus to enhance near vision without a negative effect on distance or intermediate sight.

Bausch & Lomb said the lens manages this without inducing night vision or dysphotopsia symptoms.

Mike Riding, vice-president of the surgical business unit for the firm in Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “The availability of the Crystalens HD lens represents a major addition to our European intraocular lens platform, now able to serve the growing demand for presbyopia solutions.”

He added this lens will give surgeons more treatment options, while making sure patients will continue to benefit from its Akreos line of lenses.

Also at the meeting of the ESCRS, Bausch & Lomb announced the European launch of its Zyoptix advanced control eyetracking technology.
