Bausch and Lomb Ireland appoints new general manager

Bausch & Lomb Ireland’s new general manager takes over the position at a challenging time, it has been stated.

Colum Honan will take the role and will be responsible for ensuring the Waterford plant supports the company’s business plan.

As well as checking for the highest possible quality, he will also make certain the manufacturing operation delivers on good customer service at a competitive cost.

Mr Honan joined Bausch & Lomb in 1988 as a process engineer and has since been promoted to process engineering manager.

The employee has also worked at the firm’s headquarters in Rochester, New York, where he managed to take the PureVision lens from the research and development stage to the manufacturing line.

In his new position, Mr Honan takes the place of Frank O’Regan, who was named vice-president of operations and global vision care last year.

Mr O’Regan noted his successor will have to work in a difficult market environment, commenting: “His management strengths will be a major asset in steering the business to a successful future.”

At the beginning of the month, Russian delegates arrived in Ireland to have a tour of the Waterford plant.
