Bausch and Lomb releases eyesight research findings

Bausch and Lomb has published a new survey that explores people's attitude towards the prospect of decreased eyesight.

The research indicates that people want to preserve their eyesight for as long as possible, with 61 percent of respondents claiming that poor eyesight would be one of the most difficult things to cope with about getting older.

In addition, 48 per cent of people said problems with vision would make them feel their age.

However, the company warned that many people could be putting their long-term vision at risk by failing to book regular eye tests.

Lisa VanDeMark, vice president of marketing for North America Vision Care, said multi-focal contact lenses can help to maintain eyesight as people get older.

"Multi-focal contact lenses provide wearers with the option to participate in their favourite activities, such as running and gardening, without the concerns associated with cumbersome glasses," she commented.

Bausch and Lomb recently joined forces with health information service WebMD to improve eye health by offering a package of new educational online resources.
