Bausch and Lomb survey highlights global eye health concerns
Bausch and Lomb has published data from a new global survey highlighting the lack of consideration for eye health among a wide range of people.
The company surveyed 11,000 consumers across the UK, the US, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia and Spain, finding that less than one-third are taking basic steps to preserve their eyesight.
This includes going for regular eye tests and taking precautions such as wearing sunglasses, eating a healthier diet and refraining from smoking.
It comes despite most of those polled placing a high value on their vision, with almost 70 percent stating they would rather forfeit ten years of their life or sacrifice one of their limbs than lose their eyesight.
Dr Cal Roberts, the company's chief medical officer, said: "Bausch and Lomb and its partners in the medical community know first-hand that getting regular examinations not only helps preserve one's vision but also can provide early detection of other serious diseases."
Last month, Bausch and Lomb expanded its range of offerings for the ophthalmology market by completing its planned takeover of Ista Pharmaceuticals.
