Bausch and Lomb to recommend new cleaning method for contact lenses
Bausch and Lomb is amending the directions for use of its multi-purpose contact lens solutions to include a recommendation for a "rub and rinse" regimen of cleaning and disinfection.
The company is phasing out the "no rub" guidance previously given for many of its products and is now instructing consumers to rub each lens gently for 20 seconds, before rinsing each side for five seconds with multi-purpose solution.
It comes as part of a wider product labelling transition, with the move having been made in order to conform to the latest guidance from the professional eye care community.
The company expressed confidence that this will help to improve hygiene standards and patient compliance with best practice methods.
Joseph Barr, vice-president for global clinical and medical affairs at Bausch and Lomb Vision Care, said: "We look forward to bringing several additional tools to our clinical partners to help improve patient compliance in the near future."
Earlier this month, Bausch and Lomb made three new appointments to its surgical business management team in order to introduce new insights to the company.
