Baxter continues support of haemophilia programme

Baxter Healthcare has announced that it is dedicated to continuing its support of the global alliance for progress programme of the World Federation of Haemophilia as part of its efforts to improve care for patients with the condition in developing countries.

The firm reports that it has donated $1.5 million (0.75 million pounds) to the federation since its establishment in 2003 in order to help it in its aim of providing universal access to treatment for haemophilia patients.

Involving 30 developing countries including Egypt and Thailand, the global alliance for progress has identified thousands of new patients, trained over 5,500 healthcare professionals and standardised treatment protocols for the conditions.

David Holliday, vice-president of global marketing of the bioscience division at Baxter, said: “We continue to work on all fronts to deliver on our commitment to the global haemophilia community.”

He added that the firm was proud to be a founding sponsor of the alliance and praised the work of the programme in enhancing global diagnosis, education and treatment of haemophilia patients.

Last month, the Baxter International Foundation reported on its charitable giving during 2006, noting that the firm had donated over $35 million in cash and products for both local and global needs.
