Baxter Healthcare launches new IV connector

11th April 2008

Baxter Healthcare has announced the launch of a new intravenous (IV) connector which contains an antimicrobial coating and is needle-free.

The V-Link Luer-activated device uses the company’s VitalShield protective coating along with needleless IV technology to provide a safer alternative to traditional systems.

It is reported that the product kills an average of 99.9 per cent of specific common pathogens and this can be used to reduce the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections.

Commenting on the launch, Camille Farhat, general manager of Baxter’s Global Infusion Systems, said the V-Link device would add to the firm’s existing range of needleless IV products and boost levels of safety in healthcare.

“Improving patient safety is our number one goal and this new technology can be used throughout hospitals to help prevent microbial contamination of the device and inhibit specific infection-causing agents from entering the bloodstream,” she said.

In February this year, Baxter International’s board of directors announced quarterly dividends of $0.2175 (0.10875 pounds) per share.
