Baxter launches Numeta nutrition system for children

Baxter has announced the launch of a new intravenous (IV) nutrition system for neonatal and paediatric patients up to the age of 18.

Numeta was introduced at the annual European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Medical and Nursing Annual Congress in Germany and is the first and only triple-chamber system designed for this patient demographic.

The ready-to-use nutrition system delivers a balanced formulation of amino acids, glucose, lipids and electrolytes in a triple-chamber container and has been designed in accordance with international guidelines.

It will help to meet an unaddressed medical need among younger patients who may be at risk of malnutrition when admitted to hospital.

Scott Luce, global franchise head for specialty pharmaceuticals at Baxter, said: "Numeta is a particularly valuable addition to Baxter's nutrition portfolio as an effective, ready-to-use parenteral nutrition system focused on infants and children."

This comes after the firm reported year-on-year income growth of ten percent in the third quarter of 2011.
