Bayer HealthCare and MediSapiens to create genomics analysis platform

12th October 2011

Bayer HealthCare is allying with bioinformatics company MediSapiens to create a new platform for genomics data management and analysis.

The new collaboration will leverage MediSapiens' expertise in the field of bioinformatics and web software to create a flexible and scalable platform, which will help Bayer to effectively utilise genomics data for oncology applications.

This utilisation must be conducted with due regard to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as taking into account the informed consent of respective patients.

Tommi Pisto, chief executive officer of MediSapiens, noted that genomics data is being used more often in clinical and pre-clinical research, but accompanying software offerings have been relatively limited.

"Our flexible platform and knowhow in designing software for demanding bioinformatics environments will be tailored to meet the needs of oncology research at Bayer HealthCare," he added.

Last month, Bayer expanded its healthcare operations further through the takeover of Pathway Medical Technologies, a developer of atherectomy innovations for vascular intervention.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800755825-ADNFCR
