Bayer HealthCare and Onyx announce new oncology arrangements

Bayer HealthCare and Onyx Pharmaceuticals have announced a restructuring of their partnership pertaining to a number of new oncology therapies.

Under the terms of the companies' new agreement, the late-stage oncology compound regorafenib is to be classed as a Bayer property, with the firm retaining final authority over its development and commercialisation, while Onyx will receive royalty payments based on sales.

The new arrangement will also clarify the companies' respective rights to the advanced kidney cancer treatment Nexavar, which will include Bayer purchasing royalty entitlements for Japanese sales from Onyx.

Dr Joerg Reinhardt, chairman of the Bayer HealthCare executive committee, said this agreement will help to strengthen the foundation for the firms' collaboration in future.

"Our ongoing collaboration with Onyx demonstrates the priority we place on working with partners to identify, develop and commercialise new medicines to meet unmet or under-served medical needs," he added.

This comes after Bayer HealthCare announced a new alliance with MediSapiens earlier this week to create a new genomics data management and analysis platform.
