Bayer HealthCare begins new phase III Xarelto trial

Bayer HealthCare has commenced a new phase III trial assessing its multipurpose anticoagulant Xarelto in a new indication.

The EINSTEIN-CHOICE study will evaluate two doses of once-daily Xarelto against acetylsalicylic acid for the long-term secondary prevention of symptomatic venous thromboembolism, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

It will include approximately 2,850 patients at 250 centres in 30 countries worldwide and comes as part of the wider EINSTEIN trail programme, which comprises of four studies in total.

Xarelto is already the most broadly indicated novel oral anticoagulant available on the market and has been approved for five indications across seven distinct areas of use. It is also one of Bayer HealthCare's most lucrative drugs and key drivers of commercial success.
