Bayer HealthCare highlights positive real-world Xarelto safety data
Bayer HealthCare and Janssen have announced real-world study data that demonstrates the safety of their novel oral anticoagulant Xarelto.
Results from two studies – XANTUS and a post-marketing safety surveillance study – both demonstrated that rates of major bleeding in patients with atrial fibrillation taking Xarelto for stroke prevention were low in routine clinical practice.
These outcomes were consistent with findings from the phase III ROCKET AF clinical trial, with results from the two studies collectively including data taken from more than 45,000 patients from across Europe, Canada and the US.
Bayer HealthCare presented the findings at the recent European Society for Cardiology Congress, with the Xantus data having also been accepted for publication in the European Heart Journal.
Dr Michael Devoy, member of the Bayer HealthCare executive committee and chief medical officer of Bayer HealthCare, said: "These studies are invaluable, as the real-world insights help physicians make more informed treatment decisions in the management of AF for the various types of patients that they see in daily clinical practice."
