Bayer HealthCare staff form natural substances company

13th April 2006

Bayer HealthCare (BHC) has revealed that the staff and management of the company’s natural substance research unit have formed their own independent service offshoot.

Bayer has said the formation of InterMed Discovery GmbH follows the decision by the German pharmaceutical and healthcare giant to restructure the pharmaceutical division of the company.

InterMed, which will be made up of 15 employees from BHC, will be a contract manufacturer that searches for active ingredients, develops them into products and then generates the trademarks for them, separate from Bayer.

“The employees all worked together to establish the new company ? indeed, the management has even made a financial investment in the project itself,” said Thomas Henkel, managing director of InterMed Discovery and former head of the BHC natural substance department.

“This commitment will help us further expand our new customer business in the future.”

The company believes that through its resources and technology it will be able to become “the world’s leading provider of discovery services and products based on natural substances”, according to BHC.
