Bayer HealthCare to present Xarelto data at AHA scientific sessions

Bayer HealthCare has announced that it will be presenting new clinical data from a phase III trial of Xarelto at the American Heart Association's (AHA's) 2011 scientific sessions.

Results from the Atlas ACS 2 TIMI 51 study have been accepted for presentation in the late breaking clinical trials session at the event, which will take place at November 13th 2011.

The new study evaluates the safety and efficacy of the rivaroxaban therapy as a treatment for acute coronary syndrome, a specification for which it is yet to be approved.

Currently, Xarelto is endorsed as a means of preventing venous thromboembolism among adult patients following elective hip or knee replacement surgery, having proven its efficacy in clinical trials.

It is also being studied to assess its potential for other indications, such as stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Last week, the company reported positive data from a phase III trial of Alpharadin, showing the drug's efficacy in the treatment of prostate cancer.
