Bayer names new head of oncology strategic business unit

Bayer has announced the appointment of Robert LaCaze as executive vice-president of its new oncology strategic business unit within its pharmaceuticals division.

Mr LaCaze is currently senior vice-president and head of the company's global oncology therapeutic area, but will now be taking on this newly-established role.

The new oncology strategic business unit will help the company to strategically manage and deliver upon its growing oncology portfolio, including Nexavar, Xofigo and Stivarga, as well as its early and late-stage development candidates.

It will combine Bayer's experimental medicine oncology, clinical pharmacology oncology, early and late project management oncology, oncology strategic regulatory affairs and clinical development oncology functions, and will support accelerated development of new therapeutic options for cancer.

Dieter Weinand, Bayer's board member responsible for pharmaceuticals, said: "I am confident that he will contribute his expertise and foresight to help strengthen our efforts in the fight against cancer."

Mr LaCaze joined Bayer in 2015 from Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he held the position of senior vice-president and head of product and portfolio strategy. He can boast more than 27 years of experience in various executive roles in the pharmaceutical industry.
