Bayer Nexavar tablets trial results delivered
Bayer and Onyx Pharmaceuticals have revealed the findings of a clinical trial investigating the effectiveness of a combination of Nexavar (sorafenib) and the chemotherapeutic agent paclitaxel in patients with locally advanced or metastatic HER-2 negative breast cancer.
The results of the study show that the therapy demonstrated a positive trend towards improvement of progression-free survival in the trial group.
Additionally, treatment with Nexavar plus capecitabine was found to be tolerable and resulted in no new side effects.
“This encouraging data warrants further investigation to determine the potential of the Nexavar and paclitaxel treatment combination in patients with advanced breast cancer, an often underserved patient population,” said William Gradishar, professor of medicine at the Robert Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
Bayer also announced the release of a new blood glucose monitor for kids this week, which plugs into games consoles such as Nintendo and Nintendo DS and offers diabetic children incentives to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
