Bayer says it will work to help diabetes sufferers

Bayer continues to develop devices to improve the lives of diabetes patients, it has asserted.

The company celebrates 40 years of producing and distributing blood glucose monitoring systems this year.

In 1969, the Ames Reflectance Meter was introduced by the firm’s former division Ames.

Other products that have since been developed include the Ames Glucometer, Contour Meter and the multi-test system Breeze 2.

Geri Winkler, a mountaineer with Type 1 diabetes, uses the latter and commented: “It doesn?t need to be manually coded and provides me with reliable results.”

Sandra E Peterson, president of Bayer Healthcare Medical Care, remarked the company has produced a range of innovative devices.

“Our aim is and has always been to simplify life with diabetes by providing state-of-the-art technology,” she remarked.

Features the firm are currently working on include meal markers to help patients monitor their blood glucose levels before and after eating.

Yesterday, medical professionals met in Basel for the third European Media Workshop on Diabetes, which was hosted by Bayer.
