Bayer supplies Bayblend sheets for trains

Bayer MaterialScience is supplying new flame-retardant Bayblend sheets for use in trains, the company has announced.

The opaque material, made from polycarbonate and acryl butadiene styrene, is used in the interiors of rail vehicles, from high-speed trains and local trams.

It is available in a range of colours and "is pleasant to the touch", according to Bayer.

As well as meeting strict safety requirements for the French and US railway industry, Bayer also boasts ecological credentials for its polymer sheets.

They are classed as halogen-free and contain less than 0.2 per cent bromine, iodine and chlorine and under 0.1 per cent fluorine by weight – and comply with European Union directives including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment plus the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment rules.
