Bayer supports efforts to address zoonotic diseases in tropical countries

11th September 2017

Bayer has highlighted its commitment to an international effort to address the impact of zoonotic diseases in tropical countries.

The company is supporting the efforts of the Tropical Council for Companion Animal Parasites (TroCCAP), an alliance of veterinary health experts, which has called for improved protection of pets in tropical countries from parasites such as fleas, ticks and worms.

To achieve this, Bayer has helped to put together best-practice recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment and control of climate-specific internal parasites in pet dogs, offering an overview of the most common parasites and clinical signs, as well as dosage instructions.

The guidance was shared at the recent International Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Norbert Mencke, head of policy and stakeholder affairs at Bayer Animal Health, said: "We are pleased to be able to contribute our scientific knowhow and advancements to help address the unique needs of local veterinarians and pet owners."

The intervention is timely given that pet ownership in tropical countries in southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, northern Australia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East is on the rise.
