Bayer sustainable development report praised

Bayer’s 2006 sustainable development report has been praised by a new study from the Roberts Environmental Centre at McKenna College in California.

The study looked at sustainable reports from 29 companies and confirmed that Bayer’s was the “best in the world in its sector”.

Scientists from Roberts Environmental Centre suggested that Bayer’s sustainability report stood “among the most inspiring examples of sustainability reporting seen among any industry”.

Heiner Springer, head of corporate communications at Bayer, expressed the company’s delight with the results of the study.

“It confirms that our open, comprehensive and appealing approach to informing stockholders, employees and the public about our sustainability activities is on the right track.”

The report details how the Bayer Group has successfully brought together economics, ecology and corporate social responsibility.

Roberts’ scientists reported that Bayer had worked “extensively” to address sustainability and also noted its new plans to integrate eco-efficiency with market-based strategies.

The study specifically highlights Bayer’s climate programme which was launched last year and is used by the company to set out its emissions targets.

Earlier this month, Bayer HealthCare announced that its affiliate company Medrad has signed a definitive merger agreement with Possis Medical.
