BD extends MNT vaccination support
BD has announced it will continue to support the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) with a new vaccination initiative.
The firm, which is also known as the Becton, Dickinson and Company, will support the protection of children and mothers against maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) with a $1 million (665,000 pounds) cash donation.
In celebration of the partnership between the medical technology group and the international aid provider, representatives from both appeared at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the bell to signify the opening of trading.
Caryl M Stern, president and chief executive officer of Unicef in the US, said that extending the relationship between the two firms – which began in 1997 – was essential in addressing the problem.
"BD’s recommitment to this campaign ensures that we will reach the day when zero children die from this preventable disease. I am excited that BD is challenging the public to join them in the fight to eliminate MNT," he added.
Earlier this week, the medical solutions provider said it was well equipped to deal with current fears over a H1N1 flu pandemic.
