BD finalises takeover of Carmel Pharma

BD has announced that it has completed its takeover of Carmel Pharma, manufacturer of the PhaSeal System drug transfer device.

The company's leading closed-system offering is designed for the safe handling of hazardous drugs that are packaged in vials, an area that BD has identified as a market with strong long-term growth potential.

By purchasing Carmel, BD will expand its healthcare worker safety emphasis to include hazardous drug exposure reduction, while providing an expanded suite of products in this market.

Alexandre Conroy, president for BD in western Europe, confirmed that healthcare worker safety is a key focus for the company both in Europe and worldwide.

"We are pleased to welcome this new platform and these new associates to BD," he added.

Earlier this month, the life sciences firm announced a new collaboration with Lab21 to create a new molecular diagnostic assay for the detection of the deadly Aspergillus fungus.
