BD highlights revenue growth in new fiscal report

30th April 2010

BD has said it is “pleased” with its performance in the second quarter of its fiscal year after reporting a year-on-year revenue growth of seven per cent.

The company’s revenue total for the three-month period ending March 31st 2010 stood at $1.8 billion (1.2 billion pounds), with its medical device segment accounting for around half of this total.

Diabetes care and pharmaceutical systems products were among the firm’s strongest sellers during the quarter, while its biosciences division also performed well.

The advances in these divisions were enough to offset the lower-than-expected growth seen in BD’s diagnostics sector, which was affected by decreased demand for influenza testing kits as a result of an unusually mild flu season.

Edward Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer of BD, added: “Our strong overall operating performance for the first half of fiscal 2010 gives us the confidence to reaffirm our guidance for full-year adjusted earnings.”

Last month, BD was included on Fortune Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies list in honour of its high standard of financial soundness and people management.
