BD launches new BD Rhapsody cell analysis platform

BD has announced the launch of its new BD Rhapsody platform, a single cell analysis system for RNA expression research.

The platform offers the ability to detect rare molecules responsible for biological diversity that are often missed with whole transcriptome profiling, thanks to its patented unique molecular index technology.

It combines reagents, instruments and software to allow for targeted gene expression analysis of tens of thousands of individual cells, making it possible to multiplex many samples in a single run using the BD single-cell multiplexing kit. This significantly increases sample throughput while maintaining a low doublet rate.

The product was previously in limited commercial release under the name Resolve, with application-specific targeted panels to be offered alongside the ability for customers to design their own custom-made targeted panels.

BD Rhapsody is also being expanded beyond RNA expression to include protein detection, leveraging BD's extensive antibody portfolio with BD AbSeq assays for protein expression.

Stephen Gunstream, vice-president of genomics for BD, said: "Initial data generated looks extremely positive and we believe true understanding of complex diseases will come with the ability to interrogate both protein and RNA in single cells simultaneously."
