BD launches new FACSMicroCount flow cytometry system

22nd February 2011

BD has announced the launch of a new flow cytometry system that allows for the rapid screening of raw materials for potentially damaging biological contaminants.

The company's BD Biosciences and BD Diagnostics units have released the BD FACSMicroCount system, worldwide rights to which have been acquired from Advanced Analytical Technologies.

Previously known as the Micro PRO Microbial Detection System, the technology uses a laser beam to scan for microorganisms including bacteria, yeast, mould, spirochetes and parasite cysts.

Its automated operation helps to achieve cost savings and improved productivity in fields such as the pharmaceutical, personal care and probiotics sectors.

James Glasscock, president of cell analysis at BD Biosciences, said the launch "will allow us to leverage our collective expertise in industrial microbiology quality control and flow cytometry to benefit our customers".

Earlier this month, BD announced a new collaboration with University College London that will aid the creation of new cancer biomarker tests.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800420732-ADNFCR
