BD launches new Phoenix M50 ID/AST for antimicrobial resistance testing

BD has announced the launch of the Phoenix M50 ID/AST system, a next-generation diagnostic tool to aid the fight against antibiotic resistance.

The new system offers the same accurate and cost-effective testing capabilities as the older Phoenix 100 system, allowing the rapid identification of bacteria and detection of antimicrobial resistance to be carried out using a much more compact device.

Optimised for reliability, it requires no preventative maintenance, thanks to its choice of materials and engineering techniques. It offers integration with multiple other analysers, including the BD Bactec and BD Bruker Maldi Biotyper systems.

In addition to its robustness, the system supports multiple languages, meaning it can be adopted by laboratories of various sizes across locations internationally.

Dave Hickey, president of diagnostics systems for BD, said: "The small footprint of the BD Phoenix M50 system combined with its demonstrated speed, accuracy and efficiency makes the system an attractive solution for microbiology laboratories around the world."
