BD reports year-on-year growth in 2009-10
BD has published its financial report for the 12 months ending on September 30th 2010, during which the company saw a 5.5 percent year-over-year revenue increase.
The medical technology and biosciences company generated $7.3 billion (4.5 billion pounds) for the full fiscal year, while fourth quarter revenues grew by one percent compared to the year-ago period to $1.9 billion.
Both its diagnostics and biosciences business units saw sales improvements in the last year, mitigating the impact from the expected fall in demand for pandemic influenza products.
The firm was also able to strengthen its position by completing the sale of its ophthalmic systems unit and its surgical blades, critical care and extended dwell catheter product platforms.
Edward Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer of BD, said: "We are proud of our accomplishments during 2010. We met our financial and operational goals despite the challenging macroeconomic climate facing our industry."
Last month, BD announced plans to ally with Lonza to co-commercialise a new assortment of molecular assays on its BD MAX System.
