BD to provide workflow solution to leading US cancer centre

18th June 2014

BD has announced that it will be providing its BD Cato workflow enhancement system to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The Texas site has become the first healthcare institution in the US to implement the system, which enhances safety and workflow efficiency in medication preparation via gravimetric and barcoding technology.

BD Cato interfaces with existing pharmacy IT systems to detect potential medication errors and associated costs, automates documentation, and optimises drug utilisation to reduce drug waste.

It plans to incorporate the system into its outpatient infusion pharmacies, including community-based locations, with the aim of ensuring patients always receive the right medication in the correct dosage.

William Tozzi, president of medical surgical systems at BD, said: "Medication errors are one of the top concerns on the minds of healthcare providers today and the BD Cato system offers a significant step forward in improving safety and patient outcomes, while also optimising workflow efficiencies."

Earlier this month, the company announced that it will be enabling its Bactec FX40 Blood Culture Instrument to communicate with the BD EpiCenter Data Management System, providing added functionality.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801729265-ADNFCR
