BDIA pledges to protect dental industry following EU referendum

The British Dental Industry Association (BDIA) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards in the sector, following the recent EU referendum.

Last month, the British electorate voted to leave the international bloc – a process which will take up to two years.

The BDIA has therefore moved to assure its members that it will do all it can to ensure the UK dental industry is in a position to adapt positively to any changes that come about.

Tony Reed, executive director of the BDIA, commented: "Although the referendum result has brought a great deal of uncertainty, we will be working with our own government and overseas associations and organisations to safeguard the current high levels of patient safety and the effective regulation of dental products in the UK."

It is not yet clear when Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which outlines the process for leaving the EU, will be triggered, although incoming prime minister Theresa May has insisted "Brexit means Brexit".
