Best Practice policies scheme for Yards announced by MSD AH

The Keeping Britain’s Horses Healthy campaign is to be supported with a Yard Excellence scheme pack launched by MSD Animal Health to facilitate yard owners and vets working together to develop best practice health care policies and educate owners on numerous protocols and preventative health care measures.

The new pack has posters, checklists, records and booklets, and has been endorsed by World Horse Welfare and the British Equine Veterinary Association. It contains useful information for owners about weight management, worming, vaccination and biosecurity. Yard owners can also put protocols in place for things like the management of new arrivals, vaccinations and worming. Those that work with their vets to develop and practice such policies and protocols will be acknowledged with the Keeping Britain’s Horses Health Yard Excellence Scheme Standard, and acknowledged on social media.

MSD Animal Health’s Equine business manager, Fieke Bennett, said: “Our KBHH Yard Excellence Scheme is aimed at encouraging yards and vets to collaborate more closely towards excellent preventive health care practices. By encouraging vaccination and other preventive health care practices, livery yards will have a healthier population of horses; achieving an environment with happy horses, happy owners and excellent yard reputation. This collaboration supports a strong relationship between the vet and the yard, a healthy yard means owners can enjoy their love of horses without restriction.”
