Biogen Idec to publish Tysabri data at ECTRIMS/ACTRIMS congress

Biogen Idec has announced plans to present new data on its multiple sclerosis (MS) drug Tysabri at the upcoming European and Americas Committees for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS/ACTRIMS) congress.

In association with development partner Elan, the company will be giving 28 presentations supporting the early use and long-term benefits of the drug, which is approved in more than 60 countries.

Key data will show that Tysabri is able to deliver reduced annualised relapse rates that persist in the long term among patients who receive the treatment at an early stage, while incontinence-related quality of life benefits were also proven.

Further results will support Biogen Idec and Elan's moves to stratify the risk of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy among patients treated using the drug.

Dr Douglas Williams, executive vice-president for research and development at Biogen Idec, said: "Continued study of patient experience with Tysabri has shown it can potentially improve the lives of people with MS."

Earlier this year, the company announced an expansion of its MS ActiveSource service, upgrading the online portal with new features to help MS patients receive guidance and communicate with others.
